About the ALL* - Academy
This is the self - concept of the ALL* – Academy. Weclome to the website of the ALL* - Academy! [say: Allstar]  On these pages you can find (background-) informations about the ALL*-AcademyContent: what/self concept How Practice Why Where / location(s) Similar notions Strategy Structure Outlook ------------------- What / Selfconcept To put it very short: the ALL*-Academy is a do-it-yourself postgradtuate programme. It considers itself to be an academy in a rough platonic meaning respectively in a renaissance sense. It is a moblie, virtual art academy. A (loose) association of visual artists with similar interests meeting each other in order to discuss and show what they do. This as well in real as in virtual space. By doing this ART emerges. This art refres to the (new?) term coming from the so called web 2.0 – theory: „prosuming“ – an artifiacl word consisting of parts from „producing“ and „consuming“. The ALL*-Academy is meant to be a discoursive space in which there is the possibiliy for ALL members to present their works and sicuss them. How can contemporary art look like in the 21st century? How can it deal with „theory“? What are the ressources of this art? up ------------------- How First there is a website beeing set up that should work as some sort of nodal point. Every member is refering to the nodal point via hyperlinks and gets the reference back from this point. Everybody is allowed to do, whatever he/she does anyway. One condition is that every member has to promote the node point. By doing this the webiste gets well known and every member gets back an imagetransfer from the ALL*-Academy. Parallel to this strategy there will be meetings in a loose sequential order. These meetings will happen in different places where the focal interests of the Host Professors will be discussed. Basically the interests of the Host Professors shall not be „touched“. The project is not there to try to intervene into the positions of the Host Professors! Ich is there to promote them! An internal (virtual) communication will be realised by appropriate technical means like, Email, a groupwebsite, RSS-Feeds, a possibility for online-slideshows, an online gallery and online videos. G.G.L.: „My proposal: throw ALL* ressources together and promote the project as a whole. Like some of the people that already „do the networking thing“ in ‚real life’ (personally), the social network should be extended into the virtual space and be intensived as far or as wide as we want to.“ up ------------------- Practice / internal offer (of the founder) For ALL* those who are not able to handle „ALL* that technical stuff“ I (Gerd) offer Support and/or consulting so. I will give what you need to realise by yourself what you want to give in the context of the ALL*-project . Therefore I am always „open“ for support-requests and (constructive) critique. I give my work for the success of the ALL*-Academy project! In the long run the goal is not least the so called „real space“ with it’a already existing (art) institutions. By means that are to be discussed in the future we try to realise a potential of attention for the whole ALL*-Academy. We accept that there might and will be inconsitencies in the future. They can be foreseen already. Therefore we accept that. A „real instituion“ like e.g. the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is producing such inconsistencies and potential for conflicts ALL* the time. Despite that these institutions are „working“ (at least somehow). It is clear that there are always winners and loosers in this conflicts. It is not in the intention of the founder to take advantage of that fact! G.G.L.: „My personal point of view: inconsistencies and conflicts will occur and either we will solve or bear them!“ up ------------------- Why It is not about waiting for the art scene to discover us. It is about DOING IT BY OURSELVES! It’s about trusting ourselves and what we do. We want to go our way! We are setting up our own network. A social network. We want to produce art! We want to be art! We WANT TO DO IT! We don’t want to be done. The one who is inactive is not going to be noticed and this means standstill and stagnacy for every artist. Hence these artists will be ruined (financially). No (upcoming) artist can afford that! Therefore you can only help yourself by becoming active and try to control the (extremly complex) references in the art world as far as possible. It is NOT ABOUT TOTAL CONTROL of ALL* the things you do. It is about letting some things just go. G.G.L.: „I really know what I’m talking about. I already made the experience that I got very, very ill by trying to control every aspect of my work. Therefore I want to control the project only in so far that I want to set up the whole idea an try to conceive it in a way that someone else could take over the 'whole thing' if necessary. Everybody who has good ideas abou that is welcome to send them to me!“ up ------------------- Where / Location(s) The ALL*-Academy is a mobile and virtual art academywithout a (single) determined (permanent) location in „real space“. Only in the virtual space there is a „determined space“ for it. At the time there are dependencies being set up on a „strategic axis“ Vienna-Landshut-Munich. The town of Landshut may be unknown to most of the people that are asked for beeing a Host Professor at the ALL*-Academy but for the founder it is the place where he lives and works and therefore ist is the „headquarter“ or the „center“ of the network. Virtual space is the „place“ in which ALL* can be ALL* the time => ALL* is nowhere therefore ALL* is potentially everywhere. Every activity needs it’s own special form and it’s own special medium. Therefore there are activities of ALL* in real and virtual space as well. The Locations in real space change but the Image - the link between emotion, language and content - stays and is meant to be „charged“. up ------------------- Similar notions / ancestor projects
up ------------------- Strategy ALL* is meant to be(come) a label, a brand, a name with a certain meaning, with an image within a lot is possible. Exhibitions, performances, discussions, installations, intervetions, publications. ALL* is meant to be art itself. But as art about art it shouldn’t merely deal with itself but also with the general conditions and the limitations of art. ALL* is meant to ask questions and to try to give answers. Even if these answers mean to fail. Discover the beauty of failing with ALL*! „Akademie Isotrop“ called itself an association for reciprocal amplification. ALL* is based on a similar idea. ALL* is about some sort of crosspromotion. Everyone taking part links back to the academy – the junction – the link – the node - and thus to everybody else in this network. Of course ALL* - Academy wants to be noticed in the art world. That’s WHERE we want to be. That’s WHAT we want to be! up ------------------- Structure The ALL* - Academy is founded by Host Prof. Gerd Gerhard Loeffler. ALL* THOSE who have similar interests can take part and become at least Guest Professors. But only those who are willing to found and hold their own chair within the academy are permitted to call themselves Host Professors. It’s about having some continuity in their work within the academy. And that should be honored by giving a different title. G.G.L: „ I appreciate the title of the professor being used inflationary to undermine respectively subvert the customs at the universities and (art) colleges a little bit.“ ALL* is sticking to the idea of DIY – of „Do It Yourself“ which also was a notional part of the punk movement. For the ALL*s it’s about to authorise themselves to do the things they are important for them and they like to do. -> Making Art! From this point of view it’s only consequent to empower ourselves – to confess. It’s about time we make ourselves to professors. We profess! up ------------------- Outlook on future strategies G.G.L.: "I’m really fond of the possibilities of virtual space. Utilisation and occupation of virtual space for art purposes are close to my heart. Therefore the ALL* - website on the one hand and the „real space“ with it’s existing art institutions seem to be suitable. In the long run a virtual territory for ALL* is to be established within which some of the activities of ALL* can take place. Within this process different layers of communication and reality can and will interpenetrate. We hope that they might inter-inspire each other.“ up ------------------- |
